Exploring Poetry - Rhyming Love that's not my choice

Writing is the best way through which a person can express his thoughts and feelings .The pen /pencil is the paintbrush that the poets uses to create a illusion of objects or thoughts to create a beautiful art with words.Thus poetry is something precious to be shared either by speech or by writing like we do with arts. If you ever ask a kid about poetry, the little one either comes up with 

Twinkle .Twinlke little star

How I wonder what you are

              (or)

"When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze."

Anything or Everything that Rhymes is a poetry for a kid (I used to rhyme poems for that effect).Without Rhyming, a poetry book is not fulfilled , IMP .Welcoming everyone who stumbles upon this post on  "Exploring Poetry " prompt "RHYMING"

How to write a Rhyming poetry :

1. Choose the topic or idea about what you want to write and just write in a free pattern
2. Arrange the lines in groups of 2 or 4 or 6 or 8  in even numbers
3. Organize the sentences and words to form a meaningful line
4. Add a tune or rhyme to the end of each sentence
5. For rhyming words ,you can either choose dictionary at home or at online like Rhyming Zone
6. Choose any Rhyming pattern and go with it all along the poem ( AAAA, ABAB, AABB,ABBA)

The below poem is written in the rhyme scheme (AABBBCC)

Love that's not my choice

Love was not my choice until I met you

My heart melted with the love you brew

Slowly hooked

Steadily captured

Steeply engraved

It spoiled my sleep at night

Made your wrong moves right

In Love, maths of one plus one is still one

Forgetting all ,drowning in love minding none

Complex dealings

Imaginary floatings

Under Real feelings

It secured a place in my heart tight

Taming me to a person so quite

Love , ah this potion is so strong

I confess that I cant hold it long

Un-comfortable  

Eyes playful

Oh!Life lulls

Longs sedatives for this twinge

Yours unforgettable clinch

Love - a small but a strong word

Commonly used and always heard

Staring as it comes

Striking the heart drum

Electrifies through rhythm

The music mingles the breath forever

Staying with us and leaving never

Show me a person who never Loves

He is Heartless - maybe someone has stolen it from him

He can never find the truth 

Until he believes that he too can love

Ottava Rima - WANTING

After a short break, I am continuing with the "Exploring Poetry" journey with a new poetry form "OTTAVA RIMA".

What is this Ottava Rima?.It is a rhyming stanza of Italian origin usually for long poems.Many poeters such as Boccaccio , Poliziano , Boiardo Spenser, Milton, Yeats and  Lord Byron have successfully used this form in their poems.The Ottava Rima in its current form was created by the Italian poet Giovanni Boccaccio, who used it first in Theseide.

To write a Ottava Rima  :

1. As the name says ,the Italian musical term "ottava" is related to the Italian word for eight: otto.  and "rima"means rhyme in Italian meaning that it is a stanza of eight lines which has rhyming scheme.
2. It is usually written in  iambic pentameter.Iambic foot means that has two syllables the first lightly stressed, and the second heavily stressed. Pentameter is five of those feet to a line. 
3. From the above two points, we have to write a poem of eight lines in five feet and each foot has the stress on the second syllable.
4. The rhyming pattern of each stanza consists of three alternate rhymes and one double rhyme, following the ab-ab-ab-cc pattern.It is said that the Italian poets used the female rhymes to these patterns.

WANTING

As child ,I wished for things toying my eyes  (a) 

Some worked with tantrums ,every child's weapon  (b) 

To seek warmth and attention this child relies  (a) 

Shield , I  snail into my Mother's curtain  (b) 

As adult , I grabbed eyes to make magpies    (a) 

Ruling the world as if my own cabin  (b) 

I had my own drama and scenes to be  (c) 

Yet rooted to the  ground, pleased to agree  (c) 

A bit of my grand passed to my mother  (a) 

Who then passed it to my daughter through me (b) 

I wanted my kid to grow with laughter  (a) 

With the positives that I  learned to gee   (b) 

Growing from mistakes , part of  another (a) 

Clung onto my generations to be (b) 

To follow my journey , quenching my steam (c)

In search to end my half completed dream (c)

PS:

I tried to follow the meter and rhyming pattern.The foot varies according to the rhyme , not so iambic .Post your views below as comments on the same .If You have a Ottava Rima of your own , do leave your links in the comment section below .

This Week : VILLANELLE

The Villanelle is a challenging but fun form of poetry with a haunting repetitive pattern.Its name derives from the Italian villa, or country house, where noblemen went to refresh themselves, perhaps dally with the locals, and imagine that they were back to nature.Most poets prefer to use this form of poetry for more brooding images or memories that come back to haunt you, but you can choose what subject matter you want.

How to write a Villanelle:

1. A poetic form to express a feeling or an idea.
2. It has a total of 19 lines in the pattern of 3-3-3-3-3-4 i.e in five tercets and a concluding quatrain.
3. Except the second line in each stanza ,all other lines Rhymes.
4. Two lines the first and third in the  first stanza are repeated along the poems in the pattern of
               1st  stanza - A1-b-C1
               2nd stanza -a-b-A1
               3rd stanza -a-b-C1
               4th stanza-a-b-C1
               5th stanza-a-b-c1
               6th stanza-a-b-A1 -C1, 
   Where " a not repeated but rhymes, and b not repeated and does not   rhymes" and  " A1, C1 repeated and rhymes"

Oh! This morning dew, how I feel its need when I am alone here

Its closeness near my skin, trying to quench my thirst , I sigh!

How I yearn for that love I lost somewhere among the rolling years

 I am a sequel of The Cinderella, in my life like her I appear 

Spending my days with abuses, craving for a soft voice around me

Oh! This morning dew, how I feel its need when I am alone here

A lost pearl I am now, my feelings lay unprotected, I fear

Recalling the day when I lost my protective shell to someone else

How I yearn for that love I lost somewhere among the rolling years

Why my mom always sided with my step-sister made things unclear

Making the ache in my heart grow more, leaving my voices unheard

Oh! This morning dew, how I feel its need when I am alone here

I dream of you my Guardian angel, I wish you were there

To get me to home to a Prince who will wipe away all my tears

How I yearn for that love I lost somewhere among the rolling years

Like he found his true love through the lost glass slipper

Rescuing her from all the sorrows that had befallen her

How I yearn for that love I lost somewhere among the rolling years

The Whispering Dewdrops - Exploring Poetry - Palindrome (J)

Back in our School time ,during our English classes we all have learnt about Palindromes , a word which is derived from the greek word  "palin" (again or back) and "dramein" (to run) ".

Palindromes are words or phrases that reads the same in both directions (forward and backward) .Examples : LEVEL ,MADAM, RACECAR etc.Similarly a Palindrome poetry is the one which uses the beauty of Palindrome in Poetry.

There are three different ways to write Palindrome poems,namely

1. Word Palindrome :- It can be read backwards, with the same words
2. Mirrored Palindrome :-Here the words are reads the same forwards and backwards by letter and it is more difficult to write one
3. Line Palindrome  :- in which the individual lines of a text make a palindromic sequence ,that is, which reads forwards and backwards, by lines.

This week : SHAPE POEMS

Shape Poems are an unusual form of poetry that describes an object and is written in the recognizable shape of the object ranging from as simple as an apple to more complex form as human form.I have done few interesting shape poetry (other than what I have blogged in my blog-book) on my Kindle publication Edition 1(you can see it above).

There are two types of shape poetry namely

1.Twisted Shape Poetry :

These poems are easier to write and will be ideal for children's to have fun with it.They are written using words that are twisted around the shape to make a desired form.

2.True Shape Poetry :
This type of poetry is much more challenging than the above.Here,the poet uses the poem's differing line lengths to create the desired shape.The main focus being that the words are arranged to bring visual effects to the poems.They are different form  conventional or traditional poetry yet a fun way to challenge yourself.

How to write a Couplet :
1.A Couplets is a simplest form of poetry
2.It consists of a pair of lines (only two lines) and they rhyme.
3.Each line consist of the same number of syllable.
4.The last word of each line rhyme
5.They usually form a complete thought.


William Shakespeare ,the greatest poet of all time has written his sonnets which usually end in a couplet.

Food that nourishes the mind
Preserves knowledge for mankind

Food that fulfills the body
Nurtures one's growth steady

Food that is fed for the spirit
Gathers patience to be with

   Food for body , thought and soul
   They fulfill the Human's Life whole
